The Garberville Town Band (GTB)is a friendly monster. With ten or more horns and a raging percussion section the band gets the party going, and keeps the good times blasting. The Band plays tunes from the world wide tradition of village bands. From Klezmer to New Orleans street music and Brazilian Carnival tunes, the GTB stomps and swings around the globe. Arrangements are strictly roots, with many direct transcriptions from world bandmaster Gregg Moore. Members include Jimmy Durschlag from the Humboldt Latin jazz/salsa band Ponche' on trombone, and three music teachers; Andy Barnett on trumpet, Marie Schafer on alto, and South Fork High Music Director Paul Smollinger on tuba. Sharing the rich world band tradition is the band's joy. The GTB.loves to play for non-profit events and school assemblies. With fare as diverse as Balkan wedding tunes, Frank Zappa's wildly flavorful "Lumpy Gravy", and Russian drinking songs, the GTB fills up the room with musical delights.
