MJRC

by Michelle Cable

Funky diaper core will leave its stench on Humboldt in the future weeks through the embodiment of a band known as "MJRC." The name itself can stand for a number of things depending on the listener's imagination. The music takes quite a different turn when it comes to styles as well. Nonetheless though, metal has the tendency of prevailing in their sound which guitarist B12 describes as "Something for Everyone in the Family." Michelle: Ok, everybody pass this dictaphone around and say who they are. The blare of the music is too loud for anything else.

Rock Member #1: B12, Guitar.
Rock Member #2: Bruce Willis, Drums.
Rock Member #3: Scrill Neg, Vocals.
Rock Member #4: Stylus, Bass.

Michelle: Ok, now can each of you guys tell me what the initials of the band "MJRC" stand for? B12 was telling me earlier that it is constantly changing, so tell me what it stands for each of you at the moment?
B12: Yeah, well it's whatever you want it to stand for. Machines Just Ruin Cultures.
Bruce Willis: Many Joints Rolled Constantly.
Scrill Neg: Monkies Jump Round In Circles.
Stylus: Mad Joes Running Crazy.
Michelle: Next Question. What's one term to describe you personally?
B12: Our band or ourselves?
Michelle: You, as an individual.
B12: Oh. "Individual!"
Bruce Willis: Silent, but aggressive.
(laughter)
Scrill Neg: Unwanted.
B12: Awwww.
Stylus: Different.
Michelle: So, does MJRC focus primarily on the metal aspect of music?
B12: No. We are everything man.
Bruce: Mostly metal.
Stylus: It's heavier tunes.
Scrill Neg: It's more hardcore than anything else.
B12: Crust-core. That's it. We're Crust-core.
Bruce: Crust-punk grind. But, we rock.
Michelle: Have you guys played a show yet?
B12: Fresno.
Michelle: And you guys are going to play here at the Vista soon?
B12: Yeah, in a couple of weeks. So as of the time people read this, we will have played.
Michelle: Ok, so what will the audience here have done after they experienced MJRC on stage?
Bruce: Mosh.
B12: Cream their panties. Shit in their pants.
Stylus: Something interesting.
B12: Ummm, yeah.
Michelle: How old are each of you guys?
B12: 18.
Bruce: 25.
Michelle: So a pretty diverse range when it comes to ages.
Bruce: Yeah. Youngens.
Michelle: Yep, so what was your first experience with music that comes to mind? When it kind of hit you?
B12: I don't know. Elementary school?
Bruce: I brought a bass for twenty bucks from my uncle, and I just started playing since then.
B12: I played saxaphone in fifth grade.
Michelle: On a different first time, what was your first experience with drugs or alcohol?
All of MJRC: Smoking crack. Somewhere in my friend's basement.
Michelle: What drug would you recommend?
MJRC: WEED! WEED! POT! WEED!! It is good.
(A throaty "WEED" sounds.) Michelle: (laughs) On that note, what is your best idea for relaxation?
B12: Smoke weed!
Scrill Neg: Get high!
Bruce: Take deep breathes.
Stylus. Relax. Breathe. Smoke Weed.
Michelle: What was the last album you each bought.
Stylus: Alabama Thunderpussy.
B12: I don't know. I buy like three a day.
Michelle: What what are the last ones you remember buying?
B12: The last thing I got was New Kids On the Block's Merry Merry X-Mas and Power Mann 5000.
(Someone at the Vista turns the stereo up)
Michelle: The music just keeps on getting louder. What cartoon character would fit the band's energy?
B12: Cookie Monster!
Stylus: Or Animal.
Bruce: Fred Flintstone!
Michelle: So what have been some influences for you guys' besides other bands' music?
B12: Besides other musicians?
Bruce: Just feeling the urge to just let out tension.
Stylus: Let out your personality.
Michelle: What do you guys tend to let out through your lyrics?
Bruce: Everything.
B12: Smoking weed. Being broke.
Scrill Neg: Eating children.
Stylus: Pee Wee Herman.
Bruce: Whatever comes to mind basically. We just kind of throw lyrics in at times.
B12: Protistutes.
Michelle: Are these all real-life experiences? Prostitutes? Eating children?
B12: No. I haven't eaten children.
Stylus: No, we don't eat children.
B12: Well, that one is metaphorically speaking.
Michelle: Do you think little kids would like your music though?
B12: Oh, yeah.
Michelle: When you guys were little kids yourselves, who was your biggest idol say when you were between five and eight?
B12: I don't know. I think I was like into Raffi. Oh also there was this Spanish guy who was kind of like the Mexican Raffi. His name was Cri Cri. He had all these weird songs about Gunfighter rats and shit. It was pretty cool.
Michelle: Ok, does this band have any last words for Eureka or the rest of Humboldt?
Scrill Neg: Look out because here we come.
Stylus: Remain High.
Bruce: Will Work for Love
