  Message Board Guidelines
Back to the Board

The HumboldtMusic.com Message Board is an open discussion forum for anything related to music and to Humboldt County.

As a rule, posts are not edited, nor are they deleted just because they are offensive or moronic or boring or inaccurate. However, we do reserve the right to remove any message that is offensive or moronic or boring or inaccurate, abusive, in violation of copyright or other laws, an invasion of privacy, or that otherwise interferes with our readers' ability to use and enjoy these forums. These forums are not strictly "moderated," and we do not control the content of the posts, but if a problem is brought to our attention that can be solved by the removal of a post, we will delete at our discretion.

We don't require users to log in to use the forums, nor do we require that they or use their real name, but real names and emails are encouraged. A writer who is willing to put his or her name behind a comment is far more credible than someone who remains anonymous. If you'd rather not use your name, try to use a consistent nickname. Never post a message using someone else's name or nickname.

Obscenity is permitted, but not in the message header. People of all ages should be able to read this Message Board. "Foul" language is entirely appropriate when used in a constructive way to describe emotions and feelings, and is sometimes necessary to fill the gaps in a weak vocabulary, but we ask that the header text stay "clean."

Name-calling is inappropriate and discouraged on the Message Board. Slurs based on race, ethnic background, religion, sexual orientation, gender or disability are unacceptable. Personal attacks dramatically decrease the credibility of the author, and make your message subject to deletion. Slanderous postings are slightly more likely to remain on the Board if the identity of the author is made known, but can always be removed at our discretion.

On the "faceless" Internet, it's easy to forget that behind every message is a person with feelings. Be respectful and you'll earn more respect. Don't say anything in a message you wouldn't be willing to say to someone's face.

If a post offends you, you have a number of ways to react. You may:
     1. Ignore it
Usually the best choice, because the more a thread is replied to, the longer it remains active. In general it's best just to let the words speak for themselves, and let everyone else come to their own conclusion about them.
2.Post an articulate and respectful reply
"Taking the high road;" quite effective when done properly, because it throws into sharp relief any of the initial poster's shortcomings by treating that individual with undue professional respect.
     3. Contact us and request that it be deleted.
We will delete it, although we reserve the right to explain to the readers why a thread was deleted, and we've see that folks get a bit testy when a post is removed, which could just lead to further "offensive" posts.

Let's all try to keep the HumboldtMusic.com Message Board positive or at least constructive. Email us with any questions or suggestions, and thanks for using the site!
