| The "Cowtrans" machine featured orange paint with "cow" spots. Note the pickle barrels for flotation and sand/mud, and the pivot point between the two sections. The drivers face each other. Ask a bystander (if you can find one, which is doubtful since everyone had already been home for hours by the time CowTrans rolled in!) how this machine did on the steep hills, sand, and the entry into the bay, and they'll tell you the machine was incredible! Do not, however, ask them about how the machine did on paved road. That part wasn't pretty. Modifications to this year's machine include a differential and the addition of more road-worthy tires to the less-than-road-worthy- pickle barrels. ![]() A rare moment of forward progress during the 1999 race ![]() True to the reputation of our almost-namesake, we did a lot of standing around. «Back | More pix»
