Humboldtmusic.com is a free resource built by and for the local music community. The site provides an extensive and searchable directory of local musicians and music resources, as well as customizable artist webpages which feature downloadable and streaming audio. Our Events Calendar is a comprehensive and detailed listing of local music events, and our Message Board provides a lively public forum for music-related issues. These features (and those to come!) are serving to promote the Humboldt County music community to the world and to Humboldt County itself.
The site is literally built by the local music community, in that any local musician or music-related resource may enter his/her listing into the directory. The site's administrators then review the listing and "activate" it, making it available to viewers of the website. Anyone may enter an event into the Humboldtmusic.com Calendar, including anything from basic "time and place" information to detailed descriptions, links to external websites and complete contact information. Calendar events are also subject to administrative approval. Anyone is welcome to post new messages to the Message Board, or reply to existing messages.
Local musicians may build their own websites at Humboldtmusic.com, customizing the pages with their own graphics and uploading music, which can be designated as "downloadable" or just listened to in a streaming format so that it will play over a modem with no download time. Lyrics can be posted along with credits and "liner notes." Events entered into the Humboldtmusic Calendar are automatically made available from artist websites, and press reviews or interviews may be posted to artist pages. Artists who have built HumboldtMusic websites may utilize our “QuickURL” feature, so that their fans may find their site at www.humboldtmusic.com/nameofartist.
Resources are available such as downloadable performance contracts, articles and other textual resources, chord charts and other reference materials, downloadable CD templates, software links, music business links and more.
Humboldtmusic.com has been growing at a surprising rate since it's initial launch in 2000, growth fueled almost exclusively by "word of mouth."
